the gift of time

For many of us, 2020 has given us a new perspective on the value of time. We have recreated our backyards to resemble a campground for our kids who were longing for their cancelled summer vacation. We have driven to visit our aging parents in nursing homes only to “touch” hands through a glass window. We have rediscovered the joy of baking, gardening and reading. We’re sleeping through the night. What?! Unheard of in our former lives. Spending two hours in the car every day commuting on the 401 seems like a distant and ridiculous memory.

For the first summer in twenty years, I have had the freedom to decide what my days look like and it’s been soul satisfying even with the backdrop of uncertainty.

I have used the time to cement truly cherished friendships, call my Mom often, and think about how to balance work, life and relationships moving forward.

For me, when I retell the stories from 2020, it won’t be about the pandemic. It won’t be about politics and the state of our southern neighbours. It will be about the time an owl left me frozen in my tracks by landing a few feet away, staring at me for what seemed an eternity. Or the countless hours spent on my back deck with close friends and neighbours sharing dreams, fears, hopes and speculation about the future. The world stopped buzzing and it became easier to feel more present and in the moment.

Did the nature really become more abundant or did we just finally stop and notice? Were we leaning on each other a little more vulnerably than we had in the past? I hope so. that’s where the good stuff is.

This week at Wild Honey…

We celebrate the 50th Wedding Anniversary of a wonderful couple. Although the celebration will not quite reflect what they had imagined, their closest friends and family will be there to share in the milestone. A beautiful garden party catered by Revival House to mark the occasion and to raise a glass to the gift of time.
