facing forward
This past week has been introspective and forward looking for me. Much of that has to do with purging a three bedroom home that I have lived in for 7 years. We tend to grow into whatever amount of space we are allotted. Moving forward I would prefer not to do that. I wish to live simply, lighten the load and not fill every corner with something that just collects dust…. And of course leave room for a dance floor.
In my twenties and thirties, I always had a suitcase left open at the end of my bed in a state of half preparedness for an impulsive weekend getaway, or a last minute flight to the Caribbean. Pandemic aside, as I get older and my roots extend deeper, I find myself less likely to drop everything for adventure and more likely to gather with a few close friends for fireside chats and wine, seeking more comfort and community than the thrill of the unknown. I think we exist in a life long tug of war for both.
I hope you are all finding your comfort, whatever that may be. For me, this week my comfort has been listening to old records, podcasts about life and the crazy turns it can take you on, lengthy phone calls and homemade flannel pj’s.
